Some of the animals Wildlife Rescue has cared for

This page has photos of mammals rescued. There is a separate gallery of bird photos.

White-tailed deer fawns are the most labor-intensive orphans we see. Most of them are the result of cars injuring them or killing the does. Some are from good-intentioned people thinking that they are abandoned - most aren't, the doe is just away eating. A feeding station is put up after they're released to ensure they get supplemental food as they prepare for winter.

Until recently mammals such as the raccoon were unable to be rehabilitated or reared from orphans due to the potential for rabies. Wildlife Rescue is one of only seven rehabs in the state of PA licensed to handle what are called Rabies Vector Species (skunks, raccoons, bats, woodchucks etc.) Only volunteers who are vaccinated against rabies and have followed strict handling are able to care for these animals. To date, we have reared numerous orphans and healed some of those injured so that they may be released back into the wild.

Opossums are the only marsupials native to the Americas.

Beavers need very specialized care. You can help!

Groundhogs by the side of the road are one of the first signs of spring. Please drive carefully!
